Hunkered Down for Sandy

Our Old Pine Tree at the Beginning of the Storm

Today we are hunkered down at home. We cut our mini-vacation to NYC a little short to make sure that we were home with enough time to get ready (or as ready as you can get for a hurricane).  The winds and rain are picking up now and will only get worse for the next 24 hours. I’m really not looking forward the brunt of this storm! Our tall old house is not designed for this. Fingers crossed our pine (and house) will weather the storm okay. The eye is currently on track to pass about 10 miles south of our house early tomorrow morning. Yikes! To all of my mid-Atlantic neighbors, stay safe!

  1. Good luck, stay safe and dry! I went down to our beach house in Stone Harbor NJ on Saturday to board up windows. Mandatory evacuation went into effect at 4pm yesterday. This morning at high tide the downtown is now under 18″ of water. We battened down the hatches at our place in Yardley, Pa too. Hopefully power stays on through the worst of it but I doubt it. Maybe Santa will bring a generator this Dec, or at least a battery-backup sump pump.

  2. Wowza! That’s a little close for comfort. Stay safe!

    • Jen- We were VERY fortunate! We hunkered down in the Living Room last night and only have some branches down. The wind howled all night, which was pretty scary but fortunately not devastating. Our thoughts are with our NJ and NY family and friends! My parents lost 2 giant trees last night, fortunately both landed in the woods and not on the house or power lines.
